Small Business Tuesdays | Start A Business

Hello everyone, Nancy here. Have you ever dreamed of or even thought about starting your own business? Well stop dreaming and thinking about it and get started already.

Whether you are a teenager or 115 years old, it's always the right time to start a business. Even if you are a 9 year old child, you can start a business. First ask your parents to help you get started. 

Yes, it is understood that starting a business can be a very scary thing. But no successful business owner today ever acquired success by sitting on their hands paralyzed with fear. They moved forward no matter what they would be facing along the way, and today they are all successful business owners.

First Thing's First

No matter which country you are living in, before you can actually go ahead with starting a business, first thing's first. You will need to learn about your local laws for starting a business. This means doing research on starting a business in your country. I'm in Canada so our rules and regulations will most likely vary from the country that you are living in right now.

In the bulleted list below, I have provided for you a series of information things Canadians require before starting a business. Just please take note that if you are living in a different country, this information may or may not necessarily apply to you. Therefore, use the information below as a guide ONLY.

• Licenses and Permits: Find out what type of license or permit you are requiring for the type of business you want to start.
• Taxes: You will need to learn about filing taxes as a business owner. Businesses will be issued a special filing tax number so that you can declare your earnings and taxes paid for that tax year. PLEASE NOTE: Here in Canada businesses are issued a tax number. However, depending on your country of residence, you may be issued a different type of tax "number". For example, your tax number might consist of a series of all letters, or a combination of both letters and numbers. It all depends on your country of residence. Also, depending on which country you are currently living in, your government may offer yearly funding relief or tax refunds specifically designated for small businesses. This is why it is important to do thorough research about filing taxes as a small business owner. Make sure to learn as much as you can. 
• Registration: You will need to register your business with your local government.
• Business Name: At the point when you are ready to register your business, you may also be required to provide a name for it. Before getting to this step, you must first find out whether your business name does not already exist. This is when you do what is called a "Business Name Search". It is in order to find if your name is currently available for you to use. There may or may not be a cost associated with a business name search.
• Research how to properly price your products.

COST: Registering Your Business & Business Name Search

No matter which country you are living in, there is normally a cost to registering a business and a business name search. You may or may not be required to pay for both together as in one payment. In Canada we have to pay for registering a business and a business name search separately. This is infomation that you will learn about during your research on starting a business. The cost for both is usually not too much so don't let this discourage you from starting a business. 

If you know how to sew, sell what you make. Also, know that you don't have to make super high–end fashion pieces just to get started. Create simple things and you'll be just fine.

Look at the jumper the model is wearing in the image above. It is bright in colour — Appears to be polyester, and she's wearing a brightly–patterned head wrap. The model is also wearing high glamour make up. And if you look carefully, the jumper is a simple jumper. But her headwrap, necklace, and make up turned it into a high–fashioned jumper. So you see? You don't have to actually make high–fashioned pieces in order for them to be considered high–fashion. 

If you're already making your own homemade skincare products at home, turn your skill it into a business, and start selling your products.

lf you are making your own make up for personal use, turn your creativity into a business.

TUTORIALS

So, whatever skill or hobby you have, turn that into a business. If you do not have any particular marketable skill or hobby, not to worry. Through tutorials you can learn a skill. Youtube has millions of tutorials that teach an endless amount of skills. 

In the bulleted list below are links to video tutorials. Remember, to make sure to research if the type of business you are interested in starting is permissible to operate from your home. Whether that's sewing, creating skin and make up products, woodworking, food, etc., you must find out if you are permitted to operate that business directly from your home.

Not Interested in Selling Beauty Products?

If you are not interested in learning a skill related to beauty for your business, research other types of homebased business. Get on Youtube and start doing your research. 

You will be needing packaging to sell your products in. The dollar store is an excellent place to find packaging for many kinds of products. If you are currently living in a country that does not have any dollar stores, check around in your local neighbourhood stores for low–costing packaging.

Once you have viewed the videos you will have a much better idea what to look for, for you packaging. Also, look in your local hardware stores for mason jars. They normally sell them cheap in sets of 6, 12, 24 and possibly even more. Simply check which sets you can afford to purchase at the time and and get those.

IMPORTANT! Sterilization

PLEASE NOTE: Containers that will be carrying your beauty supplies MUST be sterilized before using. Do your research for how to properly sterlize beauty containers.This way, you will protect your customers from possibly getting an infection. You want to do your very best in order to avoid any legalities from an injured customer.
