How you first get started with scrapbooking is very easy. All you need are a few simple supplies and then you are all set to go. I made a blog where I explain all about this more in–depth. Click on following link to check out that blog: What Can You Learn From Scrapbooking?
In the bulleted list below I have provided for you a list of the supplies that you'll be needing in order to get started with scrapbooking.
- A photo album
- A ruled paper binder book (a ruled paper book binder is a good substitute for a photo album in case purchasing an album is too expensive for you at this time, or in the case you cannot access a photo album in stores in your area.)
- Adhesive or tape. You need an adhesive like glue or tape for attaching your photos and any decorations onto your ruled lined paper book. And although photo albums already come with a sticky surface on each page, you will still be needing an adhesive or tape for attaching any decorations onto the pages.
- Choose a topic
- Your photographs
- Craft paper also known as construction paper (it comes in many colours). You may also want to buy background paper if you wish. Background paper is also known as wallpaper.
- A pen
Before you go off and visit the blog post called What Can You Learn From Scrapbooking? I just wanted to briefly show you something that has to do with your photo layouts.
The background of your layout can have a quiet tone such as when using light or pastel colours, or it can be loud whenever using loud colours along with loud patterns.
You can use whatever background that you wish for any of your scrapbooking projects. Below, I have created for you an example of a photo layout using three different types of backgrounds.
LIGHT PINK BACKGROUND
LIGHT YELLOW WITH POLKA DOTS
DARK BACKGROUND WITH BOLD BLUE DOTS
Do you see by just how much the look of a photo layout can change just by the type, style, and colour of the background that is being used at the time? The difference is huge.
The photo layout for each background above is identical. However, due to each background being very different from the other, the mood for each layout has also changed and in quite a dramatic fashion too.
The layout that appears up at the very top with light pink background has a quiet, soft and laid back look.
The layout with the light yellow background with polka dots just beneath it has a more playful look.
The layout that you can see just above this writing with the dark background and blue dots has a more intense and dramatic look. This background would be considered bold or loud. Just so that you'd get a much better idea of what this background looks like unobstructed I've provided a picture of it for you below.
DARK BACKGROUND WITH BOLD BLUE DOTS
Well, now that you have an idea for how you can use different backgrounds for your scrapbook layouts, you can also start selecting which of your photos to use for any particular theme that you may have in mind at the time.
In the scrapbook layout above you can see that there is writing in it. This is why you will be needing a pen. It is for the purposes of briefly describing what you're photo layout is all about. Or, you may also just want to make a general comment such as the one in the layout below.
You can get background paper for your scrapbooking layouts at dollar stores nearby you. Check all the dollar stores in your area as some may not necessarily carry background paper also known as craft paper. The paper should be in the arts section of the store, that is, if they have an arts section.
If the store does not have an arts section, you may want to look in their renovations or hardware section. They may have decorated paper already cut up into squares intended for wallpapering walls in homes or apartments. They're normally referred to as pre-cut squares of wallpaper.
These pre-cut squares of wallpaper usually measure 12 inches high by 12 inches long. In centimetres this is 30.48 high by 30.48 centimetres long. They may also come in either much smaller or larger sizes than this. Whichever the case, just make sure that you buy whatever sizes that you are needing for your layout(s) at time.
For example, if the background paper is too big for the size of your album's page, simply buy the larger size of paper and then cut it down to the size that you are needing. If the background paper is too small, simply buy more then one of that size. Get just enough so that you will be able to arrange them up in such a way to cover up the entire background of your album's page.
Also, if you absolutely cannot find any wallpaper for your layouts don't worry about it. It's not that necessary.
You can just leave your background blank. Your layouts will look just fine. Instead, add a little bit of other kinds of decorations for which I also explain about in my blog What Can You Learn From Scrapbooking?. This will help to give your layout a little more character if you wish. You can find decorations in dollar stores. But once again, if you cannot find any decorations it's not that necessary in the end either. Your layouts will still look just fine.
